Arts Education Coordinator Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: The Arts Education Coordinator must have excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills. All applicants must be able to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously. Prior work/college experience and arts/arts education background desirable.
FUNCTION: The arts education intern divides his/her time between administrative duties in the office and managing the day to day upkeep of the art studios. In addition, the intern works directly with teaching artists, students, parents and other members of the community.
Administrative Duties
- Maintaining student records such as emergency contact forms and photo-release forms
- Phone registrations for classes and workshops
- Assorted mailings
- Organizing class information such as roll sheets
- Updating departmental mail lists
Studio Duties
The condition and maintenance of the studio and art gallery is the responsibility of the arts education intern. Including the following:
Studio Maintenance
- Overseeing the teachers in the upkeep of the studios: counters/sinks cleared of supplies and trash, supplies returned to proper cabinets, work stored appropriately, etc
- Arranging for trash to be removed, refills of paper towels and soap
- Sweeping the studio floors once a week
Monitoring Supplies
- Selling clay and supplies to adult students before classes
- Reworking used clay from ceramic classes
- Keeping track of art supplies and reordering when necessary
Kilns (after orientation)
- Setting up a firing schedule for the electric kiln
- Stacking loading and unloading the electric kiln
- Assisting with loading and unloading of high-fire kiln
Instructors
- Assisting instructors set-up and breakdown their classroom supplies
- Collecting and organizing work from instructors for student art show
- Assisting with set-up and execution of student art show and reception: includes designing invitation, purchasing food, creating labels for artwork, displaying artwork, photographing reception
- Taking digital photographs on a weekly basis of classes, workshops and other education programs
Special School and Community Programs
- Assisting teaching artists, classroom teachers and students during school residency projects
- Distributing, collecting and organizing participant evaluations
- Documenting the programs through photography
- Assisting with school receptions
Children’s Village
Beginning in January, the arts education intern is responsible for organizing the preparation of projects and supplies for the Appel Farm Arts and Music Festival’s Children’s Village.
- Evaluating current craft projects and developing new projects as necessary.
- Preparing cardboard canvases for large murals
- Ordering supplies
- Prepping supplies as necessary
