Camp Staff, Instructors, and Counselors

Recording MusicWelcome to the United Nations of the Arts at Appel Farm! It is the people – a kaleidoscope of extraordinary artists, caring staff and experienced professionals – that have always formed the cornerstone of Appel Farm’s summer program. Where else could you meet, get to know and work with summer staff members as they arrive from four or five continents and from all across America? Under the mature leadership of our full-time Camp Directors, this remarkable group that comes together each summer spends a week of orientation getting acquainted with new and long-time staff while preparing to welcome campers. Diversity is a given – and it is that respect for and celebration of every person’s unique personalities, talents and cultural backgrounds that makes a summer at Appel Farm a truly remarkable experience.

Zoungy Painting MuralWhether returning to Appel Farm for a few years or a few decades, veteran staff possess years of training and/or Staffadvanced degrees and significant accomplishments in their chosen artistic fields. Counselors, both senior professionals and mature new staff working under the leadership and guidance of experienced Appel Farmers, readily assume unique roles as teachers, parents, older siblings and friends. Above all, they serve as influential role models for young people who may hope to spend their lives working or being involved in the arts. On-site medical staff ensures the safety, health and well-being of campers and the camp community. Above all, each staff member is totally dedicated to the daily care of campers - physically, socially and emotionally as well as artistically - and they accept responsibility for helping each camper develop a sense of belonging and respect for one another within the Appel Farm community.
