HeART and Health

Providing Arts Accessibility for Salem County

In 2008, Appel Farm Arts & Music Center embarked upon a new artistic partnership with the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to provide support for the health and well-being of our friends in Salem County. The HeART & Health program provides access to the arts for people who may not have the ability to participate in programs on-site at Appel Farm.

By developing relationships with several partner organizations that provide basic social service and health care to a diverse range of audiences, Appel Farm is able to reach a larger audience. Arts residencies have included programs for the elderly in nursing home facilities, disabled adults, and at-risk youth and families.

Multi-week programs, taught by trained artist/educators, were created with the partner organizations and were tailored to the needs and interests of those served. Workshops in the visual arts, music, movement, storytelling and the performing arts created an exciting and important way for people to connect with their past, present and future.

We are grateful to the  Salem Health and Wellness Foundation and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts  for helping provide access to the arts for the residents of Salem County.
