Arts Classes at Appel Farm

Current Class Schedule

Visual Arts Classes for Children, Teens, and Adults

Students in Appel Farm's arts classes focus on developing individual skills and self-expression. Each semester's instructors strive to develop new projects and present new techniques to their students. All classes are designed to be repeated. Supplies are included unless otherwise noted.

AGES 4 TO 5

ART STARTS
Your child will explore the world of art through projects inspired by illustrations found in children's literature. Creativity and hands-on fun will be encouraged as we finger paint, concoct collages, devise sculptures and more.

Cost: $125

AGES 9 TO 12


SCULPTURE
Imagine making a work of art in 3D! We’ll start with all kinds of materials, like cardboard, papier-mâché, wire, clay, plaster and everyday objects that you find around the house.  Our class will help one another to create fantastic freestanding sculptures that will amaze your family and friends!

Cost: $130

CREATING WITH CLAY
No experience is needed! Your child will learn the basics of working with the potter’s wheel. We’ll pull up lumps of clay into cups, plates, bowls and other forms. You’ll be amazed at what you can happen with a bit of clay, and your creativity!

DRAWING GALORE
Young artists who love to draw will learn about the use of line, shape, composition and perspective. You’ll have the chance to work with pencil, charcoal, pastels, or pen and ink to create different effects in your sketches.

AGES 10 TO 16


CLAY, CREATIVITY AND FUN!
Are you ready to learn how to make something really awesome with just some clay and your imagination? We’ll begin with projects made with slab, coil and pinch techniques, then progress to the potter’s wheel. We’ll work on a textured slab vase, cup or platter; an animal-shaped teapot or covered jar; and a lidded box.

Cost: $130

AGES 13 TO 17


TEEN ACRYLIC PAINTING

No experience needed to learn this exciting and beautiful medium. You’ll be painting still-life, along with learning acrylic mediums and new brush techniques.

ADULTS


BEGINNING POTTERY

No experience necessary for this introduction to clay construction techniques and glaze application. Students learn to build forms using slab and coil techniques as well as trying their hand on the potter’s wheel.

Cost: $150 per session (Clay can be purchased from instructor at each class.)

NEW! BEGINNING POTTERY (3 HOUR SESSION)
No experience necessary for this introduction to clay construction and glaze application. Some clay will be supplied, and additional clay can be purchased in the studio.

For those who have mastered the basics and want to try more challenging forms. We’ll cover the essentials of throwing and trimming, handle-making, lidded forms, making sets, and more!
