Arts Camp
Who’s Who at Camp?
April 3, 2024
We’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Camp Director, Ella Quimby; Assistant Camp Director, Tanner Rushing; and Camp & Programs Specialist, Brea Furman!
Ellamarie Quimby, Camp Director (She/Her/Hers) has been part of the Appel Farm community since her first summer as a Bunk Counselor and Photography Instructor in 2012. She comes from a varied background in education and the arts, having held positions at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, in Washington DC Public Schools, at the University of Alaska, and the University of the Arts. Most recently, Ella was Director of Residence Life at Interlochen Arts Academy boarding high school in northern Michigan. As a queer, mixed, indigenous woman, she is particularly focused on the intersection of arts education and equity, amplifying youth voices, and creating intentional communities of care wherever she goes. |
Tanner Rushing, Assistant Camp Director (He/Him/His) came to Appel Farm in 2018 as a bunk counselor and theatre director! He fell in love with Appel Farm as the perfectly imperfect bubble of love, kindness and acceptance that it is. Campers were able to be exactly who they were, they created and explored art in a way that was safe and non-competitive, and they were loved and encouraged by their community. Since then, he’s been involved with Appel Farm in many capacities and is so excited to be working with our campers again this summer! |
Brea Furman, Camp and Programs Specialist (she/her) was a camper at Appel Farm from 2001-2005, returned as seasonal staff starting in 2019 and is excited to be part of the year-round camp team this year! Outside of Appel Farm, Brea is a Behavior Analyst who specializes in supporting individuals of all ages with challenging behaviors and their caregivers. At camp, Brea is especially passionate about guiding the youngest campers and their counselors in building community where everyone feels valued and celebrated. |
