Residencies in Schools

We believe that arts in schools transform teaching and learning, and have a life-long, positive impact on students, teachers, and communities. We offer both in-school and after-school residency programs through two primary methods: arts-integration and art for art’s sake.

Arts-Integration Residencies

Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process that connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.

Arts Integration Residencies:

• rely heavily on building relationships between teaching artists and classroom teachers.
• are hands-on and experiential, thus increasing student engagement.
• support and reinforce content-area learning while engaging in the artistic process.
• foster a collaborative learning community where teachers value learning from and alongside their students. 

Benefits of Arts-Integrated Residencies:

• Arts and other content areas are taught equitably and assessed equally to advance students’ learning in both subjects.
• Arts integration facilitates deeper learning by identifying natural alignment across academic subjects and among learning standards.

Traditional Visual, Performing & Media Arts Residencies

Traditional Visual, Performing, and Media Arts Residencies allow students to explore a specific artistic discipline in a safe, noncompetitive environment. Traditional Residencies are offered in the following disciplines: 

• Visual Arts (Including 2D and 3D Art) 
• Dance 
• Music 
• Theater Performance 
• Technical Theater 
• Creative Writing 
• Photography
• Arts & Technology (Media Arts)

Traditional Residencies can be offered during school, after school, or at community organizations.
