Position Overview
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for campers and staff at Appel Farm Arts Camp. This role ensures that meals are made efficiently, following food safety protocols, dietary requirements, and established menu plans. Line Cooks also assist with kitchen cleaning, food storage, and maintaining a sanitary work environment.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay Rate: $17.50 per hour
- Work Schedule:
- June 22 – August 2: 12 to 40 hours per week, based on scheduling needs
Essential Job Functions
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to menu plans and recipes.
- Ensure proper portioning and presentation of meals.
- Assist with meal plating and serving to campers and staff.
- Follow proper food handling and storage procedures.
- Assist in accommodating special dietary needs, including allergies and restrictions.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and kitchen areas.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent contamination.
- Monitor food storage areas and ensure proper labeling and rotation of ingredients.
- Report any kitchen equipment issues or maintenance needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure timely meal preparation.
- Assist with unloading and storing food deliveries.
- Support sustainability efforts, including waste reduction and recycling.
- Participate in staff meetings and special camp events as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation, cooking, or working in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods (60+ minutes) and perform tasks while walking.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a hot kitchen environment.
- Proficiency in safely operating kitchen equipment and handling hot surfaces.
