Partner Programs

We are thrilled to partner with schools to shine a light on their students as the Region 2 partner for New Jersey Poetry Out Loud, the affiliate for South Jersey South Art Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and the host of the Salem & Gloucester County Teen Arts Festival. Each of these programs culminates in loads of arts and learning, adjudication, performances, award ceremonies, and a celebration of the creative students in South Jersey, all here at our campus! We are also proud partners of the AIE Residency Grant Program!

New Jersey Poetry Out Loud

Appel Farm is pleased to be the New Jersey Poetry Out Loud Region 2 partner serving schools in Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties. Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a free national program, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, that encourages high school students across the country to learn about great works of classic and contemporary poetry through memorization and recitation. Not only do they share their interpretation and delivery of poetry; they also compete for awards and scholarships totaling $50,000. Poetry Out Loud is an incredible opportunity for students and schools alike.

Registration is currently closed. Check back soon for information on next year’s program.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 and, for nearly a century, have inspired bold ideas in creative teens throughout the country. It is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.

Congratulations to all of the 2023 South Jersey Regional Award winners!

Salem & Gloucester County Teen Arts Festival

Schools from Gloucester and Salem Counties are invited onsite at Appel Farm to perform and/or submit artwork to be adjudicated across various disciplines, including Music Performance (vocal and instrumental; small group, large group, and solo); Creative Writing; and Visual Arts. The festival day will also include educational workshops for participating students. All participants will also be invited back to Appel Farm to exhibit their work and perform at Appel Farm’s Arts Fest event in Spring 2023!

The Artists in Education (AIE) Residency Grant Program

School grants are available from the Artists in Education Residency Grant Program, a co-sponsored project of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Young Audiences Arts for Learning NJ & Eastern PA. The program is carried out in partnership with regional partners including Appel Farm Arts & Music Center.

The Artists in Education(AIE) Residency Grant Program is a unique partnership bringing in-depth arts education programs to New Jersey’s schools. The mission of AIE is to make the arts a basic part of a sound, quality education for all students, Pre-K through 12. AIE amplifies the importance of the unique partnership and synergy between a teacher and a teaching artist: providing quality professional development for teachers and life-altering experiences for students through long-term residencies.

The AIE grant program is a great opportunity for schools to: access programming, impact curriculum, incorporate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into your curriculum, and create long-term impact on your school and community through the arts.
