Facilities & Compliance Manager
Annual Salary: $57,500 | Full-Time, On-Site | Housing Available
Position Overview
Appel Farm Arts & Music Center, a $2.6M nonprofit arts and education institution located in Elmer, New Jersey, is seeking a Facilities & Compliance Manager to coordinate the maintenance, operations, and safety compliance of its 176-acre campus and more than 20 buildings.
This role ensures that the campus — home to Appel Farm Arts Camp, the Creativity Collaboratory Charter School, public festivals, private rentals, and year-round programs — remains safe, functional, and in good working order. The Facilities & Compliance Manager works closely with the Executive Leader of Infrastructure to carry out maintenance plans, maintain compliance with all regulations, and support the daily operations of the property.
Primary Responsibilities
Facilities Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day upkeep of campus buildings, systems, and grounds.
- Coordinate with the Grounds & Maintenance Technician and seasonal staff to complete maintenance tasks efficiently and safely.
- Create and adhere to a Facilities Preventative Maintenance Plan (FPM) and Electrical Preventative Maintenance Plan (EPM).
- Perform hands-on maintenance work as needed in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, roofing, pool upkeep, septic, and automotive systems.
- Organize maintenance workspaces and manage tools, equipment, and inventory.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure facilities meet applicable local, state, and federal safety and health regulations.
- Prepare for and schedule inspections (health, fire, pool, well, etc.) and maintain accurate compliance records.
- Support emergency preparedness planning and implement safety protocols as directed.
Capital Projects and Budget Support
- Assist with the development of the annual maintenance budget.
- Research materials, vendors, and service providers to recommend cost-effective solutions.
- Submit purchase orders and track expenses in coordination with the Executive Leader of Infrastructure.
- Provide updates and operational insight for the Board Facilities Committee.
Seasonal and Event Support
- Coordinate seasonal facility transitions for camp, school, and rental events.
- Provide operational support for festivals, retreats, and rentals, including intermittent evenings and weekends.
- Respond to urgent facility concerns, including during declared States of Emergency.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years in Facilities or Maintenance experience.
- Supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Hands-on skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping, roofing, pool upkeep, septic, and automotive systems.
- Working knowledge of facility regulations for schools, camps, and public events.
- Experience in project coordination and use of project management tools (Asana preferred).
- Ability to organize multiple priorities and communicate effectively.
- Ability to lift and carry 60+ pounds and perform physical work in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and successful background check.
Position Details
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, with evenings and weekend hours as required.
- On Call: During declared States of Emergency, other significant operational concerns, and during overnight programming.
- Reports To: Executive Leader of Infrastructure.
- Housing: On-site housing available if needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual Salary: $57,500 (salaried, exempt)
