Bunk life is the center of an awesome Appel Farm Experience!
Our comfortable, modern bunks are all equipped with electricity, hot water, air conditioning and private bathrooms.
Appel Farm is a radically supportive, gender-affirming, conscious community. We offer Gender Inclusive housing options for all age groups. Campers can choose one of three housing options in their bunk area. Two Spirit, non-binary, agender, intersex, and otherwise gender-expansive or gender-creative campers are welcome in any bunk they would feel most comfortable in.
Please note: when Appel Farm says "male" or "female", we use those terms inclusive of transgender campers.
Female Centered- This bunking option is best suited to campers who have been raised or socialized as girls or women, who feel most comfortable in female spaces, or whose identity aligns with femaleness. Inclusive of intersex, two-spirit, agender, trans, and nonbinary campers.
Gender Inclusive- This bunking option is best suited for campers who want to live in a mixed-gender space, or with siblings or friends whose identities differ from their own.
Male Centered- This bunking option is best suited to campers who have been raised or socialized as men or boys, who feel most comfortable in male spaces, or whose identity aligns with maleness. Inclusive of intersex, two-spirit, agender, trans, and nonbinary campers.
What does this mean for our bunks? It means that any bunk (whether you choose female-centered, gender inclusive, or male-centered) MAY have any combination of campers with any combination of pronouns, gender identity, gender expression, or physical body parts. Appel Farm does not collect information about sex assigned at birth. Appel Farm references all campers using the gender, pronouns and/or name that they request.
North (Ages 8-10)
Bunks in North sleep 8 campers and 2 counselors. Our caring and supportive counselors live in bunk with campers and help keep campers safe, plan fun games and activities, and facilitate friendships.
Bunk Heads create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and fun bunk community for each age group. Bunk Heads train and supervise a group of bunk counselors living and working in their areas, as well as manage the overall bunk experience for campers.
Each bunk in North has an ensuite bathroom with a sink and a private shower, toilet, and changing area.
Coop (Ages 11-12)
Bunks in Coop sleep 12-14 campers and 2 counselors. Our caring and supportive counselors live in bunk with campers and help keep campers safe, plan fun games and activities, and facilitate friendships.
