Position Overview
The Dishwasher is an essential part of the kitchen team, responsible for cleaning dishes, utensils, cookware, and other food service items to ensure a smooth, efficient, and sanitary kitchen operation. This position plays a crucial role in supporting kitchen staff by ensuring that all dishware and kitchen tools are clean and ready for food preparation and service.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay Rate: $15.50 per hour
- Work Schedule:
- June 22 – August 2: 35 to 10 hours per week (schedule will vary based on camp needs)
Essential Job Functions
Dishwashing & Cleaning
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and other kitchen items using dishwashers and manual cleaning methods.
- Ensure all dishware is sanitized and ready for use by kitchen staff during meal prep and service.
- Clean and sanitize dishwashing area, including sinks, counters, and dishwashing equipment.
- Ensure that all dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment are thoroughly cleaned and free of food residue or grease.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, storage areas, and all food-service equipment.
Kitchen Support & Maintenance
- Assist with the removal of trash and recycling from the kitchen and dining areas during shifts.
- Help keep kitchen areas organized by returning cleaned items to their appropriate places.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the kitchen at all times, ensuring that all areas are free of food waste, grease, and other debris.
- Monitor and report any dishwashing equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the kitchen manager.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other kitchen staff, including prep cooks, line cooks, and food service specialists, to ensure efficient operations.
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the kitchen, helping with various tasks as needed, such as assisting with food prep or cleaning food service areas.
- Assist in ensuring food safety by maintaining a sanitary environment and following all health protocols.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow food safety guidelines, including proper handling of dishes, utensils, and cleaning chemicals.
- Adhere to sanitation procedures, ensuring all dishwashing equipment is sanitized regularly.
- Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area and report any concerns to the kitchen manager.
- Wear appropriate protective gear (e.g., gloves, aprons) while washing dishes and handling kitchen items.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in dishwashing or cleaning in a kitchen environment is preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and moving kitchen items.
- Willingness to help with other kitchen tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining food safety standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of proper cleaning techniques and the safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to handle and clean large amounts of dishware quickly and efficiently.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with kitchen staff.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions regarding cleaning and kitchen procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods during shift.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., trash bags, boxes, cleaning supplies).
- Ability to bend, twist, and lift items as needed to perform cleaning and dishwashing tasks.
- Capability to work in a hot and steamy kitchen environment.
