About the Initiative
This role supports Appel Farm’s Train-the-Trainer Initiative to prepare teaching artists, community partners, and educators to create creative, inclusive, neurodiversity/disability-affirming learning environments throughout New Jersey. The initiative includes:
- Formation of a diverse Advisory Council;
- Development of a digital Resource Bank;
- Listening sessions and pilot trainings, culminating in a day-long retreat;
- Ongoing assessment and a public-facing impact summary.
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Creative Inclusive Learning Spaces is a part-time, grant funded, 24-month role (~25 hours/week), that provides project coordination across the initiative. The Coordinator works closely with the Executive Leader of Education and the Appel Farm team to keep planning, communication, access logistics, and documentation on track.

- Use tools/systems (or assistive tech) to track tasks and timelines and communicate progress clearly.
- Collaborate with curiosity and respect, asking for and offering support to match strengths.
- Write clearly and edit for accessibility (plain language, structure, and clarity).
- Bring background in education, neuroscience, psychology, arts education, or equivalent lived/community-based experience.
- Are willing to learn digital tools (G Suite, Asana, Canva, Zoom) and/or use alternative workflows.
Essential Responsibilities
Project Operations & Communication
- Use existing project management tools (e.g., Asana, G Suite) to organize tasks, timelines, and shared documents, and to communicate updates with Appel Farm staff, funders, Advisory Council members, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate correspondence with Advisory Council, Programs staff, and Community partners, offering accessible formats when needed.
Advisory Council (Formation & Engagement)
- Support the Executive Leader of Education with inclusive recruitment, onboarding, and regular engagement of the Advisory Council.
- Ensure accessible participation (e.g., agenda in advance, multiple modes of input, flexible meeting formats) so Council members can influence design and implementation of training materials.
Training Series & Retreat (Pilots through Culmination)
- Provide coordination and logistics for Council meetings, listening sessions and Train-the-Trainer modules, including scheduling, materials, access needs, and follow-ups.
- Co-plan and implement the culminating day-long retreat with the Executive Leader of Education and Appel Farm staff. Tasks may include sharing promotional content; managing RSVPs and attendance; hospitality and access logistics (food, sensory space, mobility needs); coordinating travel/accommodations; maintaining a shared agenda; and supporting guest presenters’ materials/tech.
Resource Bank (Compile, Build, and Launch)
- Partner with the Executive Leader of Education and Programs team to organize, tag, and version content for a digital Resource Bank that supports a community of practice.
- Assist in engaging design and accessibility consultants and tracking deliverables for the Resource Bank and associated materials.
Evaluation & Reporting
- Assist the Executive Leader of Education and Programs staff in formative and summative assessment for listening sessions and trainings (e.g., check-ins, observations, surveys in multiple formats).
- Gather stories, photos and videos, feedback, and participation data toward a summary impact report and ongoing improvements.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated ability to track and communicate progress using tools/systems or assistive technologies; asks for support as needed to meet shared goals.
- Collaborative approach grounded in respect, flexibility, and strengths-based practice.
- Strong written communication and editing skills, organizing information accessibly (clear headings, plain language, alt text when relevant).
- Background in education, neuroscience, psychology, arts education, or equivalent experience (including lived/community-based knowledge) preferred.
- Willingness to learn and use G Suite, Asana, Canva, and Zoom.
Compensation & Schedule
- Part-time, salaried: $37,000/year for approximately 25 hours/week over 12 months.
- Remote work is possible, as determined with the Executive Leader of Education.
- Benefits: Not included for this position.
